GenMDM SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive MIDI Interface FAQ

Does GenMDM support NTSC or PAL?
Both! A MIDI CC value toggle between the two - so that you can be in tune regardless of your area and model of SEGA.
Which models of SEGA are supported by the GenMDM?
SEGA Nomad, SEGA Genesis Model 1, SEGA Genesis Model 2, SEGA Mega Drive Model 1, SEGA Mega Drive Model 2. The JVC X'EYE has not been tested, but should theoretically be compatible. Newer SEGA "console on a chip" models are not recommended or necessarily supported due to hardware differences and potential software issues. My personal recommendation is the SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive Model 1.
Can I buy the GenMDM connection by itself and use my own SEGA Flash cart?
Not currently, but this is being explored as a future possibility. Thanks for your patience.
Can I buy an "old school" MIDI version of the GenMDM(i.e. 5 pin DIN connection instead of USB)?
Not currently, but this is being explored as a future possibility. Thanks for your patience.
Are samples supported with the GenMDM?
Yes, but only in a somewhat limited capacity - a series of percussion / drum samples come pre-loaded on the GenMDM.
Can I put my own samples on the GenMDM?
Not at the moment. However, this is something that has been / will be explored
Do I have to build the GenMDM myself?
No, it comes prebuilt and tested.
Will the GenMDM function as a class-compliant MIDI device?
The GenMDM will function as a class-compliant MIDI device on Windows and Mac OS X as well as Linux.
How much will postage to X cost?
Worldwide postage is included in the price. Trust me, I know how annoying it is to live far away from everywhere else and to have nasty surprises with postage price.
Is the GenMDM code open-source?
No.
Can you save GenMDM patches/setups?
No, all changes are made via MIDI CC. In essence, it is thus assumed that your sounds are stored "in your sequence" rather than as part of the interface. However, there are a number of presets included that may be of use when designed sounds.
Does the GenMDM support DAC on channel 6 of the YM2612?
Yes, but only in a somewhat limited capacity - a series of percussion / drum samples come pre-loaded on the GenMDM.
Does the GenMDM support the SN76489 PSG?
Yes.
Will the GenMDM support SEGA 32X sound control in the future?
Most likely not - not in the near future, at least, and not with the current SEGA-side firmware.
Will the GenMDM support SEGA CD / SEGA MEGA CD sound control in the future?
Most likely not - not in the near future, at least, and not with the current SEGA-side firmware.
